Activity Level - Moderately Challenging: For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their day on the go. Be prepared to bike 14 – 35 miles per day on mostly downhill or level terrain, with a couple of short uphills. The host site includes a short uphill walk to meals.
Remember, this trip takes place in the Appalachian mountains. Dress in layers to account for the change in elevation throughout the day’s ride and expect a bit of uneven terrain, although the Virginia Creeper Trail is mostly well-maintained. During our excursions, we may bike for multiple hours at a time, but there are frequent stops along the way for sight-seeing or restroom breaks. Mountain bikes are provided. Each day the Sundog Outfitter van follows the group with extra bikes, and provides an opportunity to stow away extra layers or get off the bike for a spell.
